Meeting New People…

Are you good at interacting and socializing with complete strangers? If so, the Network Marketing Business is for you. The Network Marketing Business is all about… Networking. Get around people, enjoy people and build relationships that may last you a life time!

There are a few important elements when meeting a potential prospect, business partner or a new person for the first time. I have listed a few things that sprung to mind below. However, as with everything, interaction with people is all about common sense. What to say, when, how and to whom… I have, for the sake of ease, assumed you have an abundance of this already!

  • Get Personally Involved
    • Ask questions about the person you just met. Who are they? Married? Children? Hobbies? Dreams? Etc…
    • Be equally open about who you are!
    • Remember names – Use them later. Hey, how are you, and how is Sharon? (asking about the person´s wife)- these small questions about family members, using their names, is a powerful tool in building relationships. I know, when someone does it to me I sincerely appreciate it.
    • Remember, showing a genuine interest in people is crucial to everything you do in life.
  • Find Commonalities
    • As you are interacting and asking questions you need to find commonalities, things you share. It could be interests, places you visit or restaurants you frequent or anything… Establishing commonalities will certainly help you in your quest of building trust and relationships. Use the commonalities as a platform for communication. We all love to talk about things we know well.
    • Avoid religion or politics until you know it is ‘safe’ to discuss these topics. Some people take offense to differences of opinion. No need to start sticking your neck out in the first interaction.
  • Confidence
    • Great interactions with people of any nature is based on confidence. It is hard to interact, sell or building relationships without having confidence. Great confidence in oneself comes from a belief that you can achieve anything. And you know what? You can… But that´s a different topic 🙂
    • You also, of course, need to be confident in the Company and Products you represent. This confidence comes from knowing the products, using the products and talking about the products.
    • Again, be genuine. Too much confidence will push people away and too little may make you come across as nervous or weak even. Trust yourself. You are good enough!
  • Physical
    • Smile as often as you can, genuinely.
    • Make eye contact and maintain it .
    • When interacting with people from different cultures make sure you know in advance what is considered a customary greeting. Shaking hands or kissing on the cheek or no physical contact at all. Make sure to avoid mistakes here as this will be the first impression of who you are. You are an interesting and interested person, thus you have cared enough to understand the traditions/customs of the person you are meeting.

Once you get good at interactions of any sort or with any person, it will take you all of five minutes to get to know someone decent enough to make a decision. A decision of whether he or she will be a stimulating acquaintance, friend or business partner. Practice makes perfect – so get around positive and inspiring people and start building those relationships today!

Good Luck!
